    Keeping Physical Distance

    Thanks to COVID-19,  virtually everyone’s lives have been upended to one degree or another. If you’re trying to work from home, you might have noticed a few challenges directly related to doing so, especially if you haven’t previously been in the habit of working from home. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to promote safe work from home. First and foremost, it’s important to create a comfortable area in which you can work. If you have other family members in the home, it’s likely that you’ll have to set some boundaries as well. Involve ergonomics to ensure that you’re looking after yourself and take frequent breaks. All of these things will be described in greater detail in the following paragraphs.

    Creating a Comfortable Work Area

    This is one of the best tips that you can ever follow when it comes to working from home. If you don’t have an area that you can set aside that’s comfortable and gives you the space you need to work, it’s going to be much more difficult to get anything done. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to take an entire room and turn it into a home office, but if you have the space and the ability to do so, it certainly isn’t a bad idea. Even if you’re working from your kitchen table, you can still make that your work space while you’re actually working. It might require a little extra effort, but it is entirely possible. The first thing you want to do is make sure you have enough room for your computer, files, and anything else that you will need. Choose a chair that allows you to sit comfortably.  The last thing you want to do is end up sitting on a chair that feels somewhat akin to sitting on a rock.

    Get Familiar With Ergonomics

    When it comes to the term ergonomics, you may be wondering exactly what it entails. It’s a fancy way of saying that you’ll be both more productive and less prone to injury if the work tools you’re using support your body as opposed to forcing it into repetitive movements that aren’t natural to begin with. As previously mentioned, make sure you have a chair that you can sit in comfortably. It’s also important to ensure that it sits at the right height for the table at which you’re working. This is precisely why you see the padded armrest on computer keyboards in offices. They’re designed to reduce the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. If you work a lot of hours at home, this may be one of the best tips for working at home to ensure that you don’t end up with new problems or exacerbating issues you already have.

    Take Breaks

    Taking breaks isn’t just good for your physical health, but your mental health as well. It’s easy to get burned out when you’re staring at a computer screen all day, especially during such a stressful time. It’s likely that you already have a great deal on your mind so if you need to take a break and get something to drink or a snack, don’t beat yourself up for doing so. If you’re really having a rough time concentrating, it may be time to take a break from the computer and go for a walk, making sure to practice good social distancing.

    You might be anxious to get back to the office or you may be discovering that you really like working from home. Regardless of the category in which you fall, using these tips can make it easier to get through the current situation.
